What’s the difference between AFC and a nursing home?
AFC offers a more personalized, home-like environment, while nursing homes provide skilled nursing and medical care in a clinical setting.
Is AFC regulated by the state?
Yes. Adult Foster Care homes are licensed and regulated by the state and must meet specific care standards and safety requirements.

What types of care do you provide?
We provide personal care (bathing, grooming, dressing), medication supervision, meal preparation, social activities, and more.
Are your caregivers trained or certified?
Yes. All caregivers are trained in CPR, first aid, medication administration, and undergo background checks and ongoing training.
Can residents have visitors?
Absolutely. We encourage family and friends to visit, following our visitation guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort.
What activities are available for residents?
Activities may include games, music therapy, crafts, gardening, exercise programs, and community outings.
Can residents bring their own furniture or belongings?
Yes. Residents are encouraged to personalize their rooms with their own furniture, décor, and belongings.

Cost & Payment
How much does Adult Foster Care cost?
Typically the majority of the costs are covered by Medicaid and administered by the county. There is also a cost of care charged that is equivalent to the client’s social security benefit less their personal fund allowance.
Do you accept private pay clients?
Yes. We accept both private pay and Medicaid-eligible clients, although private pay clients are more rare due to the costs associated with care.
Are there any additional fees?
Some optional services, like transportation for personal outings or specialty care, may have additional costs.

- How do I apply for placement?
You can start by contacting DWIHN, and if you need help we can point you in the right direction.
Is there a waitlist?
It depends on availability. We’ll let you know current openings and can place you on a waitlist if needed.
Can a resident move to another care level if their needs change?
Yes. We regularly assess residents’ needs and can coordinate higher-level care when appropriate.
Can family be involved in the care plan?
Definitely. We encourage family involvement and work collaboratively to ensure residents receive the best care possible.
